Letter arrives from Mary. It seems that rationing does not have much of an impact on them since they have their own supply at the farm. Interesting that news of a flood in Kenton Ohio was heard on the radio news in Washington.
It seems that Josephine is feeling a bit homesick for California and the friends she has left behind. She mentions the gas rationing that happened during their journey east. Interesting that she speaks of school not yet starting in October which seems very late to me.
The next letter from England arrives. Life is heavily impacted by the war there with rationing, travel restrictions and war work for the mothers. This is all mentioned in her letter.
Next letter arrives from city of Angels. More mention of the war and rubber shortage. Josephine’s opinions on the standards of schooling in the west compared to the east.
Another letter finally arrives from England. It was opened by a censor and she talks of wartime rations. It makes me realize how much we take for granted today.
